Water Safety Audit (L8 Risk Assessment / HTM 04-01)

The audit process draws on the management requirements of the HSE L8 ACOP and HTM 04-01 & HTM 03-01 (where appropriate). Contact us for an L8 risk assessment. What are the benefits of an Audit, and why should I have one?

” … the Code [Approved Code of Practice and guidance L8] has a special legal status. If you are prosecuted for breach of health and safety law, and it is proved that you did not follow the relevant provisions of the Code, you will need to show that you have complied with the law in some other way or a Court will find you at fault.”

An audit is crucial to the development or refinement of any good risk management system. The audit process draws on the management requirements of the HSE L8 ACOP for the L8 risk assessment and HTM 04-01 & HTM 03-01 (where appropriate) and mirrors the practice of the ISO.9001 standard.

Audit is typically used as an initial preparatory stage and on an annual basis to confirm compliance and improvement.  The water hygiene audit will examine and verify your management systems you currently have in place, covering such issues:

  • Appointments of Responsible Persons and associated staff
  • Roles, responsibilities and lines of communication
  • Risk assessment and re-assessment of compliance
  • Review of the policy and procedures document(s), records
  • Implementation of remedial works
  • Evidence of monitoring and performance of systems
  • Staff training

The resulting report provides top-level recommendations with budget cost estimates, in the format of an action plan, this in turn provides evidence internally (and to visiting HSE Inspectors) that the organisation is aware of its status with respect to Legionella/water hygiene and has a risk-based programme to achieve any necessary improvements.

Audit is an inexpensive exercise, representing excellent value for money.

“Very professional and well informed Audit”.
