An engineering risk assessment minimises the risk of Pseudomonas aeruginosa contamination and saves lives.

Since an outbreak in 2012 in Belfast led to the death of 3 newborn babies, contamination of Pseudomonas aeruginosa has become a major concern within hospitals. Tests at King's Mill hospital were returning positive water sample counts containing the bacteria and this needed to be eradicated as soon as possible.

Included in this case study:

  • The challenge faced at King's Mill hospital
  • The testing criteria and solution identified
  • The outcome of the on-site assessment
