Role of the Competent Person

Course Overview

This course deals with the practical aspects of controlling the risk. 

Our Competent Person training for Legionella, provides information on the potential risks posed by Legionnaires’ disease and the practical measures for controlling and minimising such risks.

Topics covered on the course can include:

  • Background to Legionella and ecology
  • Law & guidance
  • Written Schemes / Water Safety Plan
  • Protection of maintenance personnel and others
  • Tank cleaning procedures
  • Cold water storage operation, monitoring & maintenance
  • Cold water services with temperatures greater than 20°C
  • Hot water storage operation, monitoring & maintenance
  • Hot water services with temperatures less than 45°C
  • Calorifier flushing
  • Calorifier maintenance
  • Destratification checks
  • Cleaning water systems within buildings
  • Showers
  • Safe purging of stagnant water
  • Maintenance checks for other water systems
  • Sampling and monitoring
  • Water temperature checks
  • General microbiological/Legionella sampling of water
Course Details
  • Duration: Full Day;
  • Cost: On request;
  • Delivery Method: Face to Face or Microsoft Teams;
  • Group Size: Minimum of 8 / Maximum of 16 Delegates/day;
  • Certificate: A Certificate of attendance will be issued on completion of the course.
