Jim Perry Joins Water Hygiene Centre as Authorising Engineer (Water)

The Water Hygiene Centre is delighted to announce the expansion of its Authorising Engineer (Water) team with the appointment of Jim Perry as Senior Consultant.

Jim brings over 30 years of extensive experience in water system safety through water quality management, design and specification reviews. His impressive career began as an environmental waters, food, and water compliance microbiologist, evolving into more than two decades dedicated to Water Quality Management & Control across a diverse range of sectors.

Throughout his career, Jim has worked with NHS Trusts, Local Authorities, educational institutions, and commercial organisations, delivering services such as ILM training, water safety audits, design reviews, UKAS-accredited Legionella risk assessments, and outbreak investigations.


His expertise extends to collaborating with key public health bodies, including the UK Health Security Agency, Office for Health Improvement and Disparities, and the Health and Safety Executive, producing detailed reports and supporting investigations into waterborne pathogens. Jim’s work has often involved site inspections, record reviews, and water sampling to ensure robust water safety management.

Daniel Pitcher, Managing Director of the Water Hygiene Centre, said:

In his new role, Jim will be delivering Authorising Engineer (Water) services, including:

  • Design and specification reviews, onsite verifications;

  • Delivery of our ‘water safety project management’ training courses;

  • Supporting the application of the Water Hygiene Centre’s toolbox tools.

Outside of work, Jim enjoys spending time with his friends and family and can often be found axe-throwing, having even competed in the International Axe Throwing Championships.
